My trip to Quebec…
I am a travel person and during summer vacation, my travel mode is activated!
Over the long weekend, my parents and me flew to Quebec City. We flew from our beautiful Saskatoon, to Toronto and finally to our interesting destination, Quebec! It was spooky midnight when we arrived and we went straight to our cozy hotel, to sleep.
When I woke up the next morning, I was extremely tired. Going back to sleep was irresistible, but I had to stand up. When I had finally peeled myself away from my comfy pillow, we searched for a place to eat breakfast. Almost at the end of a beautiful street lay a beautiful restaurant. It was called Café Roma! Their scrambled eggs were a sensation, just like the rest of the breakfast. After a wonderful meal, we walked to the harbour of Quebec. It wasn’t very spectacular, but across from the boring harbour lay a cute, little farmers market! It was a one of a kind market, with only products from Quebec. We bought white nougat, which was “exquis”, as the French people would say. (exquis = delicious) Then, we walked into the old part of Quebec. As you might know, Quebec is built on a hill, so there are lots of levels of the city. Quebec is also built by the Saint Lorenz River. The name Quebec actually means: Where the river tightens. The city is spectacular, because so many old houses still stand. The main attraction of Quebec is the Chateau Frontenac, which is an old hotel, a bit like our Bessborough hotel, but way bigger! Its pretty fancy. After a delicious feast of noodles in a restaurant called Parmesan, we went to bed.
I was just as tired as the day before, but it was my dad’s birthday that day, so mom and me sang happy birthday. Well, mom sang, I mumbled it. After the birthday wishes were completed we walked to the street we had eaten breakfast in, on our first day. But when we arrived at Café Roma, it was closed shut. Disappointed, we went to the end of the street, where we found a beautiful, open, modern restaurant. My croissant was a blast! After a very delicious breakfast, we made our way to the plaza at the Chateau Frontenac, where we would participate in a sightseeing tour of Quebec City. The tour was very interesting and informative, and the bus ride was great! After another looonngg walk through the city, we concluded the day with a ghost tour in the evening. Tragically, we were VERY disappointed by the tour. The stories were boring and not one percent of the tour was scary! Victoria’s ghostly walks are for sure the best! After the tour, we went to bed. (Tired but NOT scared!)
I was just as lazy and tempted to sneak back under the blanket as the first two days. Café Roma was open and we ate the same thing we had eaten on Saturday. It was epic as last time, but the watermelon slices were the special highlight! Hmmm… We had rented a car the day before, and would drive to a gigantic waterfall and a small island in the middle of the Saint Lorenz river. The first thing on the list were the waterfalls. They were called Montmorency Falls and are longer taller than the Niagara Falls! To get to the top of the waterfalls, you had to walk up a gigantic flight of stairs! After accomplishing that exhausting task, we walked over a bridge that went over the stunning waterfall. It was really cool to see the water rushing down below you, but also a bit scary. After a tiring walk down the stairs, we continued the car trip. We rove over a long bridge, that led to the island. On the island called Île d’Oléron, were many little shops and beautiful houses with a spectacular view of the water. We drove along the island for the day, discovering a chocolateri, a cheese shop and lots of other places. I was so sleepy and had a few “one second sleeps”. Those are when you nod off for a second but then suddenly wake up again. We ate dinner in a French restaurant on a wonderful crowded street, filled with life. Later at night, we went to bed.
The next morning, I woke, knowing that we would have to fly to Saskatoon in the evening, but was still very sleepy. (Like usual!) We ate breakfast in Café Roma one amazing last time, and then strolled through the old city. I knew I would miss the beautiful ancient houses a lot. We walked down a crowded street, looking for a place to eat lunch, but there was none. At the end of the road, where the people had lessened, lay a little restaurant only serving crepes! It was lucky for us, and extremely good. We trailed back to our hotel, where we packed our luggage and drove to the airport. From the airport, we flew to Toronto and from Toronto to Saskatoon, our super home…
